The annual BCS Information Retrieval Specialist Group (IRSG) Search Solutions 2023 event will take place in London on 22 November. This is the only conference in the world that sets out to bring together academic and practitioner perspectives on information discovery. As its title implies, the focus is on highlighting solutions in the context of case studies. The event marks the first anniversary of ChatGPT, which was launched on 30 November 2022 and the presentations will take into account the benefits and implications of AI-supported search. The conference is also the occasion on which the BCS Search Industry Awards are presented, and these will give a good illustration of the direction of travel in information discovery. The conference will be held at the BCS London office in Copthall Avenue, convenient for rail links into London. The conference area at the BCS is well set out for discussions.
The conference programme will be announced in early September. There are nine speaking slots and at present there are still a couple of open slots for presentations. If you have a case study or a viewpoint you think would be of interest to delegates a one-page proposal is all that is needed. The format for this this can be found on the BCS IRSG site The deadline is 21 August, There will also be day of workshops on 21 November.
